Isca Sports Massage Therapy

Is sports massage appropriate for my needs?

Sports Massage can be tailored to the specific needs of ay individual. A sports massage could help anyone who

  • has a "knotted" back, or stiff muscles
  • suffers with tired, aching mucles
  • is preparing for a sports event
  • is recovering from an event
  • is in need of relief and relaxation
  • has recovered from an injury, and requires assistance in returning to full working order
  • wishes to improve their flexibility
  • is detoxing and wants to flush out toxins
  • is need of revitalisation

When is the right time for a sports massage?

A sports massage can be beneficial at any time of the day, week or month. Having a massage everyday would not be detrimental to your health.

Pre event massage could assist in preparing the body for action and post event massage can aid recovery from the competition.

You might feel that you need a sports massage first thing in the morning to help rejuvenate and wake up your body.

After a long day at work you may want to relax, wind down and relieve aching muscles.

I am not a sportsperson! Does it matter?

Anyone who can relate to the situations above can benefit from a sports massage, even if you've never played sport!

Will it hurt?

Absolutely not (unless you want it to!). Sports masseurs are trained to use their body weight and strength to apply pressure to the soft tissues. This can be much more beneficial to the body and can have a greater effect, however it is your massage, and the sports masseur will take great care to tailor to your specific needs. You will not be put through any unnecessary pain or discomfort.

What do I need to wear?

There is no dress code at Isca Sports Massage. You can wear your business suit, your spikes fresh from the track, your swimming costume or a ballgown.

Your sports massage therapist will competely respect your modesty at all times. You are not required to expose yourself in any way that would make you feel uncomfortable.

During the massage, oils and lotions are used, so towels are used at all times for covering the body, to protect clothing and to maintain a comfortable temperature. You will be asked to undress accordingly, depending on what part of the body is being worked on in that particular session. Some people prefer to wear shorts - this is fine. Ladies should wear a bra that can be easily unclasped in order to access the back muscles.

How long does a session last?

The length of the session will depend on the specific problems or requests you present to the massage therapist. It will usually last around 45 mins.

What does the Initial Consultation involve?

To protect client confidentiality, and for professional records to be kept, a client case history must be filled out for your first treatment. Your massage therapist will carry out a simple and quick consultation, analysing your complaints and recording the reasons for your visit. You will not need to carry out a consultation at any returning session with the same therapist.

You will be required to provide information, with complete confidentially, regarding:

  • your basic details
  • contact information for your GP and any other professional healthcare practitioners
  • your current, and any previous medical history
  • any helpful information relating to your current complaints / issues.

This will allow your massage to be professionally and personally tailored to your specific needs.

How can I accomodate Isca Sports Massage Therapy for a home visit?

In the case of a home visit, your therapist will bring their portable massage table, oils and towels to your house. All you will need to do in preparation is ensure there is a space available about the size of a single mattress, in order for your therapist to set up their table and have sufficient room to move about. This can be wherever in your home is the most comfortable and offers the most privacy for you.
